Robin Roberts shared a personal loss she experienced recently.
On Monday, Oct. 28, the well-known “Good Morning America” television anchor revealed that she learned a close friend of her family passed away over the weekend.
In one of her inspirational videos that was shared on Instagram prior to going on air, she broke the sad news to fans.
Roberts was told the unfortunate news of her longtime friend, Eric Paulsen, by her sister, Sally-Ann Roberts, just as the broadcaster was heading out to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show with her wife and goddaughter in New Orleans.
“Unfortunately, right before we left for the concert, my sister Sally-Ann called to let me know that a dear friend, a dear family friend, Eric Paulsen, had passed away from cancer,” she said.
Paulsen worked with CBS affiliate station WWL-TV in New Orleans and was one of the station’s top-rated anchors for nearly five decades.
He died at the age of 74.
“Eric and my sister Sally-Ann ruled morning television in New Orleans for many, many years, and there are so many heartbroken folks right now—my sister, Eric’s family, many New Orleanians," Robins shared of Paulsen and Sally-Ann’s closeness.
Closing off her Monday Motivation video, Roberts offered this message to fans who cope with hard times and grief, saying, “This morning message is for you.”
One user wrote in the comment section, “May his memory be a blessing.”
“Amen. Praying for your loss,” another wrote.
