JBL screws Joe Hendry in TNA world title fight at Bound For Glory - Cageside Seats

Filed under:

JBL is a scoundrel. John Bradshaw Layfield made a surprise appearance that screwed Joe Hendry in the TNA World Championship bout at Bound For Glory (Oct. 26, 2024).

Nic Nemeth defended the world title against Hendry in the second of three main events. Mischief was in the air with Frankie Kazarian as the special guest referee. To complicate matters even further, Kaz won the Call Your Shot Gauntlet earlier in the evening for a prize of a title shot at any time.

Kazarian actually called the match fair and square for the opening chunk of the fight. That changed after Hendry executed an avalanche fallaway slam. With both competitors down on the mat, Kaz was tempted to cash in his shot to steal a quick pin. Hendry saw what was happening and forcefully ordered Kaz back into the ring to remain referee. Hendry re-entered right into a Fameasser from Nemeth. Kaz made a quick count out of spite, but Hendry kicked out before three.

Later, Hendry caught a flying crossbody to roll through for an Attitude Adjustment. Nemeth kicked out on the cover. The action spilled onto the apron. Hendry ate a superkick, but he was able to fire back for a cutter. Hendry fell down to the floor, while Nemeth rolled into the ring. Kaz began a ten-count on Hendry. At three, Kaz decided to try cashing in again. He called for a new referee. That’s when JBL appeared.

JBL entered through the crowd and made a beeline to crush Kaz with a Clothesline From Hell. Kaz’s cash-in didn’t count. He was out cold.

JBL sauntered over to Hendry on the outside. It looked like JBL came in peace. He was just preventing malarkey from Kaz. JBL whispered in Hendry’s ear. As JBL turned to leave, Hendry tugged at his coat on the wrist. JBL reacted with a Clothesline from Hell. Ryan Nemeth confronted JBL, so JBL punched him out. Nic saw none of this happen.

Back in the ring, Nemeth struck with his Danger Zone finisher. The backup referee arrived to count. All hope seemed lost for Hendry. 1, 2, kick out by Hendry! The crowd erupted with excitement. Hendry grabbed Nemeth for his Standing Ovation finisher, but Nemeth slithered free and cracked a superkick. The champ added a second Danger Zone to win.

JBL’s motivation in TNA still appears to be a mystery, but his appearance had a direct impact on the result of Hendry losing. This only adds fuel to the fire of Hendry’s journey to become world champion.
