Obituary | Jimmy "Bo" Screws of Sandersville, Georgia | May & Smith Funeral Directors
Mr. Jimmy Screws, age 77, of Ridge Road, Sandersville, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15th at Friendship Baptist Church, Washington County, on County Line Road with burial in the Church Cemtery. Reverend Terry Cliett and Reverend David Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bobby Miller, Nicky Screws, Joey Reece, Chandler McDavid, Thomas Avant, Travis Proctor, Jacob Amerson and Brian Avant. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Friendship Baptist Church.
Jimmy was born near Oconee and was a lifelong resident of Washington County, son of the late Gordon David Screws, Sr. and the late Tillie Osborne Screws. He began working at an early age, beginning in the textile industry working at a Woolen Mill in Milledgeville and Washington Manufacturing in Tennille. He later transitioned to the Kaolin Industry working for Cypress Clays and retiring in equipment maintenance for K.T. Clays. In retirement, Jimmy worked along with his son Tony in yard maintenance. He was a longtime and active member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Jimmy was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed working on small engines. He loved being outdoors and traveling to the mountains. In his spare time, he would watch old westerns and game shows. Jimmy cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and his side kick Chipper, his dog. He is predeceased by his children, Vickie Osborne, Jimmy Dewayne Screws and infant daughter Grace Marie.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Ruby Gunn Screws; children, Tony Screws and his wife Amy of Sandersville, Carolyn S. Kent and her husband Clay of Milledgeville, Scott Kicklighter of Tennille and son in law, Mike Osborne; grandchildren, Katelyn Amerson and her husband Jacob, Kayla Screws and Bethany Screws and her fiancé Peyton Schulyer; great grandchildren, Isabella Dennard and Zylan Corbin and siblings, Gordon David Screws, Jr. of Gibson, Lant Screws and his wife Faye of Tennille and Tillie S. Williams of Dublin.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
