A Vermont man was arrested on Thursday after police said he was caught throwing hundreds of nails and screws into the roadway.
Police were called to the Wells River Savings Bank on Main Street in Bradford after bank employees noticed a man throwing objects into the street.
Officers said they observed 54-year-old James Denman of Hartford throwing screws and nails into the roadway, including underneath a parked Bradford Police cruiser.
Denman was arrested, and officers located a bag of screws and roofing nails during a search. He was processed and then transferred to the VA hospital in White River Junction.
Police said Denman has been cited on charges of disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and attempted unlawful mischief.
Officers later found hundreds of nails and screws in the road and in parking areas stretching from the Bradford Town Office south to the Dollar General Store on Carson Lane. Crews worked to remove as many of the objects as possible, but police warned that there could be more, particularly in parking areas on Main Street between Barton Street and KD Welch Service Road.
If your vehicle was damaged by one of the nails or screws, police are encouraging you to reach out to the department to report the damage.
